Summary:
The Residential Child and Youth Care Practitioner (RCYCP) is the primary direct contact with residents and is directly responsible for their welfare.
The RCYCP performs all care and behavior management functions and is an active participant on the Treatment Team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
The duties of the RCYCP include:
Supervising youth at all times in the home and in the community, Maintaining a safe, supportive and loving environment, Teaching and supervising basic hygiene practices, Teaching respect for the rights of others and fostering good interpersonal relationships, Enforcing the rules of the home, Maintaining a clean, safe and attractive home, Assuring clean and adequate clothing in good repair, Assuring that the child is eating a proper amount of nutritionally adequate food, Overseeing the health needs of the child, Teaching self-control, Applying discipline and penalties within prescribed limits to correct unacceptable behavior, Serving as Case Manager, interfacing with Placing Agents, the HHY Social Worker, the Program Administrator, teachers, and family, in order to carry out the treatment plan for the child, attaining goals in education, behavior modification, living skills, and interpersonal relationships, Transporting youth is required, Participating in staff meetings, consultant meetings, weekly team meetings and others as required, Participating in all training sessions as assigned, Performing all administrative duties, Filing incident reports when appropriate, Taking proper crisis intervention action when necessary, and Other related duties and activities as assigned.
SUPERVISION:
The RCYCP is supervised by the Senior Counselor or the Program Administrator where applicable.

Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years of age, and Demonstrate a capacity to understand youth and to develop further knowledge and skills for working with the kind of youth in care of the facility.
Demonstrate a capability of providing a constructive role model for youth and of forming 3.
positive relationships with them; and Be able to withstand the work and pressures of caring for a group of active, often aggressive youth, have the energy to participate in the youth's activities, and be flexible and willing to learn new ways of coping with youth's problems.
EDUCATION AND/OR
Experience:
The RCYCP is required to have one of the following:
Baccalaureate degree in a human services field, Associate or Undergraduate level and one year experience in working with youth in a group setting, High School Diploma and have three years experience in working with youth in a group setting.
Must be Certified as a Residential Child Youth Care Practitioner PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
